About The Position

Blue Chip Pros is a commercial cleaning business providing customized services to a range of facilities. The General Cleaner performs cleaning activities in assigned buildings and facilities to keep them clean, sanitary, and orderly, and completes other duties related to the assignment. The listed schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday in the morning, at Academy Sport in Houma. Duties include dusting, sanitizing and spot-cleaning surfaces, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, dust-mopping or vacuuming floors, and sanitizing floors. The role also involves maintaining grounds, public common areas, and food-court areas; performing a visual inspection after cleaning; and providing courteous customer service. Other assigned duties may include floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing. The job requires knowledge of basic janitorial operations, materials, equipment, and safe work practices, as well as the ability to follow instructions, communicate with coworkers and supervisors, operate janitorial equipment, and interpret cleaning-chemical instructions and warnings. The work involves substantial physical activity, including walking, standing, lifting and carrying supplies and trash, pushing and pulling, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and operating equipment and tools.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic janitorial operations, methods, materials, and equipment.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals and their MSDS sheets.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate sufficiently with coworkers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain the physical condition required to perform the assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods; lifting and carrying 1–30 pounds; pushing and pulling with 5–35 pounds of force; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and reaching, handling, grasping, and fingering.
Ability to use sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination to perform cleaning tasks and operate equipment safely.

Responsibilities

High-dust surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, vents, and ledges.
Sanitize surfaces and spot-clean fingerprints, smudges, and windows using appropriate cleaning solutions.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks and toilets; check and refill soap and paper dispensers as needed.
Empty trash cans, clean them when needed, and replace liners.
Dust-mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture, and clean up collected dust.
Clean and inspect outside areas, including ash urns, sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, benches, vending machines, window ledges, public glass, and parking areas.
Maintain public common areas by dust-mopping and spot-mopping hallways, cleaning glass and planters, and checking for cobwebs and debris.
Clean and sanitize food-court tables, remove trash, spot-clean spills, manage trays, and police outside eating areas.
Sanitize floors using the appropriate germicidal solution, working from the back of the room toward the exit.
Inspect completed rooms, check furniture placement, and make corrections as needed.
Clean halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, and furniture; perform wall spot-cleaning and high dusting daily.
Provide courteous customer service, work quietly, remain in the assigned area unless directed otherwise, and report broken or out-of-order items and incomplete assignments to a supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor auto-scrubbing and buffing.
