About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Sight: Ability to perform cleaning tasks and maintain safety standards, requiring depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges in a counter-clockwise direction.
Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height, remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot clean windows.
Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and the inside of toilet bowls. Clean and check soap and paper dispensers daily and refill as needed.
Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe trash cans if liquid is present, and place a clean liner in the trash can.
Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors, starting at the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are cleaned. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust.
Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, check for cobwebs and high dust window areas at least twice a week, and check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean for spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, sanitize floors starting at the back of the room, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned work area, maintain a clean and neat personal appearance, and report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
Other duties: Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
