About The Position

Blue Chip Pros is hiring a General Cleaner to perform cleaning activities at Academy Sport in Birmingham and keep the assigned facility clean, sanitary, and orderly. The role includes routine cleaning of rooms, restrooms, floors, hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, public common areas, food court areas, and exterior grounds. Cleaners use appropriate solutions, supplies, and janitorial equipment, follow safe work practices and chemical instructions, inspect completed work, and provide courteous service to customers. Other duties may be assigned by a supervisor or Account Manager, including floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor scrubbing and buffing. The listed schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic janitorial work, methods, materials, and equipment.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals, including following MSDS sheets.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate sufficiently with coworkers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to perform physical duties including extended walking, standing, or sitting; lifting and carrying equipment, supplies, and trash weighing 1–30 lbs.; pushing and pulling with both hands and arms using 5–35 lbs. of force; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, balancing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and reaching, handling, grasping, and fingering, including overhead reaching throughout the shift.
Ability to use sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination to perform cleaning tasks and operate equipment and tools safely.

Responsibilities

High-dust surfaces above shoulder height, including lights, vents, ledges, and curtain tips.
Sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and spot-clean fingerprints, smudges, and windows using appropriate solutions.
Clean restrooms, including sinks and toilets; check and refill soap and paper dispensers as needed.
Empty trash cans, clean them when necessary, and replace liners.
Dust mop or vacuum floors, including under furniture, and dispose of collected dust.
Clean exterior areas by emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, curbs, and parking lots, spot-cleaning spills, removing gum, and wiping benches, vending machines, window ledges, and public glass as needed.
Maintain public common areas by dust mopping and spot mopping hallways, cleaning glass, maintaining planters, and checking for cobwebs and debris.
Clean food court tables and trash cans, sanitize tables, spot-clean spills, return chairs to their places, and collect and wash trays using a tray power washer.
Sanitize floors by mopping under furniture and behind doors while working toward the exit.
Inspect completed rooms, check furniture placement, and make corrections as needed.
Clean halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, and furniture; perform wall spotting and high dusting daily.
Knock before entering an occupied room, communicate courteously with customers, refer questions when appropriate, and report broken or out-of-order items to a supervisor.
Work quietly, remain in the assigned area unless directed otherwise, maintain a neat personal appearance, and report unfinished assignments to a supervisor.
Perform other assigned duties, which may include floor stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and floor scrubbing and buffing.
