About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Operating powered and non-powered equipment.
  • Lifting/carrying 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash.
  • Push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes.
  • Bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
  • Kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
  • Reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment. Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
  • Sight – in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards. Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and the inside of toilet bowls using appropriate solutions and tools. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if liquid is present, and replace with clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an 'S' stroke, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are covered. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, covering areas under furniture.
  • Grounds Care: Clean and check outside areas multiple times daily, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, dusting window ledges, and policing the parking lot.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass surfaces multiple times daily. Clean planters inside and out, ensuring they are free from bird waste. Perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for dirt and cobwebs.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily Tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are performed daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to a supervisor, work quietly, stay in the assigned area, maintain a clean appearance, and report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and auto scrubbing and buffing floors.
