About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, working in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans using a germicidal solution.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, including wiping down the sink area, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet with a Johnnie Mop and proper germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if liquid is present.
  • Dust mop or vacuum floors using the "S" stroke method, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring all furniture and restroom areas are covered. Clean mop heads with a counter brush and dispose of dust.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean, dust mop, and spot mop main hallways, ensuring glass is cleaned, planters are clean and free from bird waste, and performing high dusting for dust and cobwebs in window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, place chairs back under tables, spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, mentally reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement for corrections.
  • Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, along with high dusting.
  • Engage in customer relations and service by knocking lightly before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring to others, reporting broken items to a supervisor, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
