About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, operating powered and non-powered equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, or trash, pushing/pulling using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties (5-35 lbs force), climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination in the operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls using the proper solution.
  • Spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down in the following order: above and below the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim.
  • Clean and check soap dispensers and paper dispensers daily, refilling as needed.
  • Empty trash cans, removing the liner and wiping the can if liquid is present, then placing a clean liner.
  • Dust or vacuum floors using a treated dust mophead, starting at the back of the room and using an "S" stroke to catch dust on the leading edge. Dust under all furniture and in restrooms, stopping just inside the door.
  • Clean the mophead by gently brushing in a downward direction into the service cart and sweeping up dust onto a dustpan for disposal.
  • When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work toward the door, ensuring all areas under chairs and furniture are cleaned.
  • Perform grounds care by cleaning outside areas several times a day, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean public common areas by dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass several times a day, cleaning planters inside and out, checking for cobwebs and high dusting window areas at least twice a week, and checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables, spot cleaning spills, emptying and cleaning trash cans, removing dirty trays to the washroom and cleaning them using a tray power washer, stacking clean trays for recycled use, and policing outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors as backing out of the room.
  • Perform self-inspections after completing room cleaning, mentally reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks including hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, and high dusting.
  • Practice good customer relations and service by knocking lightly before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful to customers, answering questions courteously or referring them to someone who can, reporting broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, reporting to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift, and always being courteous.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by the supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, and auto scrubbing and buffing of floors.
