About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash.
Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment. Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and remove fingerprints and smudges from surfaces. Spot clean windows.
Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, and dispensers using germicidal solutions. Refill dispensers as needed.
Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if necessary, and replace with clean liners.
Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop or vacuum floors using appropriate techniques, ensuring all areas are covered. Clean mop heads as needed.
Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, high dusting ledges, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot.
Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and perform high dusting of window areas.
Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables and chairs. Spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove and clean dirty trays, and police outside eating areas.
Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door.
Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are done daily.
Customer Relations and Service: Be friendly and cheerful to customers, answer questions courteously, report broken items to supervisors, work quietly, stay in assigned areas, and maintain a clean personal appearance.
Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, and auto scrubbing and buffing floors.
