About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including general rooms, bathrooms, and common areas, as well as grounds care and customer relations.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and safety.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, removing fingerprints and smudges from various surfaces and spot cleaning windows.
Clean bathrooms thoroughly, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, using germicidal solutions and appropriate tools.
Empty trash cans, replace liners, and clean cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors, starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care duties, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean and maintain public common areas, including dusting and spot mopping hallways, cleaning glass, maintaining planters, and high dusting window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, and process dirty trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room and mopping under furniture.
Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, reviewing steps, and visually checking furniture placement for corrections.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including spotting and high dusting.
Engage in customer relations and service by being friendly, courteous, answering questions, reporting issues to supervisors, working quietly, and maintaining a neat personal appearance.
Report to supervisor if work assignment is not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, auto scrubbing, and buffing floors.
