About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks for various areas including high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and grounds maintenance. The position also requires excellent customer relations and service, reporting any issues to the supervisor, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties, including walking, standing, sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
Adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination for cleaning tasks and safe equipment operation.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, and dispensers.
Empty trash cans, clean them if necessary, and replace liners.
Dust mop or vacuum floors, ensuring all areas under furniture are covered.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, planters, and checking for cobwebs.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, and clean trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, ensuring all areas are covered.
Conduct self-inspections after completing cleaning tasks, reviewing steps, and checking furniture placement.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting.
Maintain positive customer relations and service by being friendly, courteous, and helpful.
Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Stay within the assigned work area unless directed otherwise by a supervisor.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction, bonneting), auto scrubbing, and buffing floors.
