About The Position

This position performs a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. The role also involves performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate for the performance of assigned duties, including walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Adequate sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination for equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, starting in a counter-clockwise direction around the room and cleaning surfaces above shoulder height (e.g., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges).
  • Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height (e.g., ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, trash cans) using a germicidal solution.
  • Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot clean windows using the proper solution.
  • Clean bathrooms using a germicidal solution, wiping down the sink, toilet seat, and the outside of the toilet bowl. Clean the inside of the toilet bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Check and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans, replacing liners and wiping down cans if they contain liquid.
  • Dust or vacuum floors, starting at the back of the room and working towards the door, using an “S” stroke with a treated dust mophead. Dust under furniture and in restrooms. Clean mopheads with a counter brush and sweep dust into a dustpan for disposal. When vacuuming, ensure all areas under furniture are covered.
  • Perform grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum with a scraper, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass as necessary, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Clean public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, cleaning planters inside and out, high dusting window areas at least twice a week, and checking corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, placing chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, remove dirty trays to the washroom for cleaning, and police outside eating areas.
  • Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Conduct self-inspections after completing room cleaning, mentally reviewing steps and visually checking furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Perform daily tasks including hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting, and high dusting.
  • Practice good customer relations and service by knocking before entering occupied rooms, being friendly and cheerful, answering questions courteously or referring them to the appropriate person, reporting broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor, working quietly, staying in the assigned work area, maintaining a clean and neat personal appearance, and reporting incomplete work assignments to the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
