About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling with 5-35 lbs force, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination for operation of equipment and tool use.
  • Requires sight for performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Clean and sanitize sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and inside of toilet bowls using germicidal solutions. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe cans if liquid is present, and replace with clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, ensuring to dust under furniture and in restrooms. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust. Vacuum floors starting from the back of the room and working towards the door, ensuring to cover areas under furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass, planters (inside and out), and perform high dusting for dust and cobwebs in window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks include hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can, report broken items to a supervisor, work and speak quietly, stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise, maintain a clean and neat personal appearance, report to supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift, and always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
