About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of janitorial work operations.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, and overhead reaching.
  • Sufficient sight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height, such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height, such as ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, clean sinks, toilets (including the inside with a Johnnie Mop), soap dispensers, and paper dispensers. Refill dispensers as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, wipe down cans if liquid is present, and replace with a clean liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, ensuring to dust under all furniture and in restrooms. Clean the mophead with a counter brush. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, ensuring to get under furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot cleaning spills on sidewalks, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass several times a day. Clean planters inside and out. Perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week, checking all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop under furniture and behind doors as you back out.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work and speak quietly. Stay in the assigned work area unless directed otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
