About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting/carrying 1-30 lbs, pushing/pulling 5-35 lbs, climbing stairs and ladders, bending/twisting/balancing, kneeling/crouching/crawling, reaching/handling/grasping/fingering, overhead reaching, and having adequate sight, depth perception, and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, and ledges.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height including ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, clean sinks, toilet bowls (inside and out), soap dispensers, and paper dispensers. Refill dispensers as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if liquid is present, and replace with a clean liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an “S” stroke, ensuring all areas under furniture and in restrooms are cleaned. Clean mop heads and dispose of dust. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work towards the door, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including ash urns, trash cans, sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines, and benches. Police parking lots for trash. Spot clean spills on sidewalks and remove gum. Wipe down vending machines and lower window ledges. High dust for dust and cobwebs. Clean public area glass as necessary.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways. Clean glass surfaces multiple times a day. Clean planters inside and out, removing bird waste. Check for cobwebs and perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week. Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays for recycled use. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop under furniture and behind doors while backing out of the room.
  • Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement after completing a room, making corrections as needed.
  • Daily tasks: Hallways, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and wall spotting and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly on doors before entering if occupied. Be friendly and cheerful to customers. Answer questions courteously or refer them to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work quietly and speak quietly, reducing noise. Stay in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report incomplete work assignments to the supervisor. Always be courteous.
  • Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager, which may include floor care (stripping and waxing, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrubbing and buffing of floors).
