About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Requirements

  • Basic operations of janitorial work.
  • Basic methods, materials and equipment used in janitorial work.
  • Basic safe work practices.
  • The use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Sufficiently communicate with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
  • Interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, Operating powered and non-powered equipment, Lifting/carrying 1 – 30 lbs. equipment, supplies, trash, Push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force, Climbing stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas, drapes, Bending/twisting/balancing at waist, knees, neck throughout shift, Kneeling/crouching/crawling while cleaning lower areas, retrieving supplies from lower shelves, Reaching, handling, grasping and fingering while operating equipment, using hand and power tools, wiping and cleaning surfaces and using cleaning equipment. Overhead reaching required throughout shift.
  • Sight – in performing cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards. Requires depth perception, hand and eye coordination in operation of equipment and tool use.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean surfaces above shoulder height in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height and remove fingerprints/smudges from surfaces and walls. Spot clean windows.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down sinks, toilet seats, outside of toilet bowls, and clean the inside of toilet bowls with a Johnnie Mop. Clean and refill soap and paper dispensers.
  • Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners, clean cans if liquid is present, and replace with clean liners.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Dust mop floors using an "S" stroke, cleaning under furniture and in restrooms. Vacuum floors, ensuring coverage under furniture.
  • Grounds care: Clean outside areas including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds for trash, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, wiping lower window ledges, high dusting for dust and cobwebs, cleaning public area glass, and policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop main hallways, clean glass, clean planters, and perform high dusting for dust and cobwebs.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables. Place chairs back under tables. Spot clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove dirty trays to the washroom, clean them using a tray power washer, and stack clean trays.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and working towards the door, mopping under furniture and behind doors.
  • Your Inspection: Mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement for corrections.
  • Hall – lobby – stairs – water fountains – furniture – wall spotting and high dusting is done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly on doors before entering if occupied. Be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can. Report broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor. Work quietly and speak quietly. Stay in the assigned work area unless requested otherwise. Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance. Report to the supervisor if work is not completed by the end of the shift. Always be courteous.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (this could include, but is not limited to, floor care – stripping and waxing floors, extraction and bonneting of carpets, auto scrub and buffing of floors).
