About The Position

The General Cleaner is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities to maintain a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition. This role involves detailed cleaning tasks in various areas, including high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and grounds maintenance. The position also requires excellent customer relations and service, reporting any issues to a supervisor, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Maintain physical condition appropriate for the performance of assigned duties, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered equipment.
Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, or trash.
Ability to push/pull using both hands and arms, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp, and finger.
Ability to perform overhead reaching.
Adequate sight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution.
Clean bathrooms, including sinks, toilets, and dispensers, using germicidal solutions.
Empty and clean trash cans, replacing liners as needed.
Dust or vacuum floors using appropriate methods and equipment.
Perform grounds care, including emptying ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and parking lots, spot cleaning spills, and wiping down benches and vending machines.
Clean public common areas, including dusting and mopping hallways, cleaning glass, and maintaining planters.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court area, and clean trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, working from the back of the room.
Visually inspect and ensure furniture placement is correct after cleaning.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls.
Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to the appropriate person.
Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care (stripping, waxing, extraction, bonneting, auto scrubbing, buffing).
