About The Position

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment. This role involves detailed cleaning of various areas including high dusting, sanitizing surfaces, bathroom cleaning, trash removal, floor care, and grounds maintenance. The position also requires customer interaction and adherence to safety and appearance standards.

Requirements

Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial work.
Knowledge of basic safe work practices.
Knowledge of the use of toxic and non-toxic chemicals (per MSDS sheets).
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Sufficient communication skills to interact with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment.
Ability to interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals.
Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift/carry 1-30 lbs. of equipment, supplies, trash.
Ability to push/pull, using both hands and arms while performing cleaning duties, exerting 5-35 lbs force.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders while cleaning upper areas and drapes.
Ability to bend/twist/balance at waist, knees, neck throughout shift.
Ability to kneel/crouch/crawl while cleaning lower areas and retrieving supplies.
Ability to reach, handle, grasp and finger while operating equipment and cleaning surfaces.
Ability to perform overhead reaching throughout shift.
Ability to use sight for cleaning tasks and maintaining safety standards, including depth perception and hand-eye coordination.

Responsibilities

Perform high dusting using a treated high duster, working counter clockwise around rooms to clean surfaces above shoulder height.
Sanitize and spot clean surfaces below shoulder height using a germicidal solution, removing fingerprints and smudges from surfaces and spot cleaning windows.
Clean bathrooms by wiping down sinks, toilets, and dispensers with germicidal solution, and using a Johnnie Mop for the inside of toilet bowls.
Empty trash cans, replacing liners and cleaning cans if necessary.
Dust mop or vacuum floors using the appropriate technique, ensuring all areas under furniture are cleaned.
Perform grounds care, including cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, spot cleaning spills, removing gum, wiping benches and vending machines, and policing the parking lot.
Clean and maintain public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping hallways, cleaning planters, and performing high dusting of window areas.
Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables in the food court, spot clean spills, empty trash cans, and clean trays.
Sanitize floors using the proper germicidal solution, starting at the back of the room and working towards the exit.
Inspect completed work, mentally reviewing cleaning steps and visually checking furniture placement.
Perform daily cleaning of halls, lobbies, stairs, water fountains, furniture, and walls, including spotting and high dusting.
Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner, answering questions or referring them to someone who can assist.
Report any broken or out-of-order items to the supervisor.
Work quietly and maintain a clean and neat personal appearance.
Report to the supervisor if work assignments are not completed by the end of the shift.
Perform other duties as assigned, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing, carpet extraction, and auto scrubbing/buffing floors.
