This position investigates claims against insurance or other companies for personal, casualty, or property loss or damages, and attempts to effect out-of-court settlements with claimants. The role involves handling complex losses locally unassisted up to designated authority, and assisting on larger losses, including accounting-based losses like business interruption and stock. The General Adjuster examines claim forms and other records to determine insurance coverage, interviews claimants and witnesses, consults police and hospital records, and inspects property damage to determine liability. They estimate repair or replacement costs, negotiate settlements, and recommend litigation when necessary. The role also includes revising case reserves, preparing loss experience reports, and supporting the organization's quality programs. Travel is required as needed.
