Job Summary: The General Accountant, reporting to the Accounting Supervisor, supports the financial operations of the Scalo Companies by performing a range of accounting duties with a focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and month-end close processes. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to work independently with tight deadlines, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a willingness to learn industry-specific accounting software.

Requirements

Possess customer care focus and have ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
Willingness to learn and provide assistance to all operational personnel –with willingness/enthusiasm to handle other tasks as necessary
Ability to work independently and within a team effectively
Possess a strong sense of accountability and high work standards
Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on accuracy and details
Ability to work in a sedentary position involving sitting and standing primarily with a majority of tasks completed via computer work
Ability to work general business hours with occasional overtime hours due to business needs (Monthly financial statement preparation, end of month closing preparation, etc.)

Nice To Haves

Degree in Accounting or a related field
2 years’ experience in an accounting-related position
Job costing experience
Construction industry experience
Experience in Sage 300 accounting software

Responsibilities

Primary emphasis on Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Bank Account Reconciliation, and month end close process
General ledger, cash management
Produce Work In Progress(WIP) and Backlog reports
Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
Maintenance of accounting files
Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
Provide exemplary, detail-oriented administrative support services to The Scalo Companies
Complete accounting functions through various computer programs and working heavily in the MS Office package
Ability to learn new software such as Sage Timberline, Timberscan
Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping financial information confidential
Work in a fast-paced environment with monthly and weekly deadlines
Respond to Team Member and customer inquiries in a timely manner and with a friendly, professional demeanor in a team environment
Perform other duties as assigned
