GED Instructor - Adult Ed Center
About The Position
The Education Center provides a wide range of adult education services to the Brooklyn community. Our offerings include ESOL classes, GED preparation courses, and language-supported vocational training. Additionally, the Education Center operates a Family Welcome Center, where we provide case management, wrap-around services, workforce development programming, and regular community workshops and events. Many of our students speak Spanish, Arabic, or Chinese as their first language. The GED Instructor will be responsible for teaching GED preparation classes to adults aged 17 and older with a focus on reading and writing.
Requirements
- Bachelors in Education/Arts/Science or a related field
- Two years teaching experience (preferably in an adult education setting)
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to demonstrate strong time management, organizational skills, and problem solving skills
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and work as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively in the face of stress, feedback, or change
Nice To Haves
- Language skills in Spanish, Arabic, and/or Chinese are preferred
Responsibilities
- Prepare students for the GED exam with instruction reading & writing
- Prepare and follow a detailed curriculum
- Take daily attendance and collect examples of student work
- Work collaboratively with program staff to identify and address student needs
- Administer pre-tests and post-tests using TABE
- Attend professional development training and seek opportunities to further develop a teaching practice
- Other duties as assigned
