The GCS Instrument Support Service Technician I is a key member of the Global Customer Support (GCS) Instrument Support team, responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installation, and technical support of all released internal instrumentation and associated peripherals. This role requires understanding the implications of work, recommending solutions, and assisting in defining methods and procedures for new assignments. Maintaining positive and effective working relationships with all stakeholders is crucial. As part of an R&D organization, this position involves demanding timelines and varied request types based on ongoing studies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and 2 years of technical school or equivalent military training or equivalent work experience.
  • Successful completion of training or certification as defined by RD Services Leadership and policy.
  • Knowledge of electronics, electro-mechanical systems, and information technology.
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, mechanical, assembly drawings, specifications, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to use test equipment such as digital voltmeters and precision weight scales.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, nut-drivers, calipers, and various other hand tools.
  • Provides excellent customer service to all stakeholders, including building and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Communicates efficiently and effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Reports and exchanges knowledge of field-relevant issues with GCS second-level support.
  • Works as an effective departmental or cross-functional team member.
  • Works independently and with minimal supervision while adhering to Roche procedures and processes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and other required maintenance on released instrumentation within the specified timeframe.
  • Diagnoses and performs repairs on Roche released internal instruments at both internal and external sites.
  • Installs new released instrumentation, including all peripherals (e.g., PC, label printers).
  • Assists with the removal of decommissioned instrumentation and PCs.
  • Performs calibrations on released instrumentation as required.
  • Works from written and verbal descriptions to perform testing, troubleshooting, and repair functions.
  • Ensures compliance of calibration for various tools and systems within the Research and Development laboratories.
  • Ensures all required service documentation is completed and submitted accurately and on time.
  • Monitors work to ensure quality and promotes a 'Quality First Time' approach.
