About The Position

At Whiting Clean Energy, the Instrument Technician works at a 525 MW facility as part of a small, collaborative team of approximately 30 employees with contractor support. The role maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, installs, and commissions instrumentation, electrical systems, control systems, and plant equipment. It diagnoses issues involving PLCs, VFDs, and turbine control systems; carries out preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance; supports plant outages and continuous improvement; and partners with team members and contractors to promote safe, reliable operations. The position requires hands-on industrial electrical and instrumentation maintenance expertise, the ability to interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings, and working knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, and control systems. Electrical work includes motor-control troubleshooting and work with transformers, grounding systems, and switchgear up to and including 5 kV. Instrumentation work includes pressure, flow, level, and temperature devices, control valves, actuators, and control loops. Familiarity with analyzers and sample conditioning systems is preferred. The job may involve lifting up to 50 pounds, working at heights or in confined spaces, and working in hot or cold outdoor conditions. The technician must be willing to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed; accommodate outage schedules that may include extended 12-hour shifts; and respond to plant and emergency situations. Travel is negligible. The role is not eligible for relocation and is not available for remote work. The entry rate is $35.28 per hour. Experienced candidates may qualify for a higher starting rate based on qualifications and relevant work experience, up to the fully qualified rate of $51.91 per hour. bp describes its work environment as supportive of work-life balance, learning and development, and diversity, and lists life and health insurance and a medical care package among its benefits.
