GCP Solutions Architecture

Persistent Systems•Dallas, TX

About The Position

Persistent is seeking a highly skilled Enterprise / Cloud Architect to lead the migration and cloud enablement of a large Java application to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The role focuses on preserving existing functional and non-functional behaviors while defining the target-state architecture, migration approach, and cloud enablement strategy. It requires expertise in enterprise application migration, stateful workloads, session management, DNS-based service discovery, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), networking, caching, and highly available cloud architecture. The architect will work across application, network, security, DevOps, and platform teams to address connectivity, latency, availability, and session-management challenges. They will establish architectural guardrails and best practices for enterprise workloads on GCP, guide architecture decisions, and review designs, proofs of concept, migration plans, and implementation artifacts. The position is based in Dallas, USA, and seeks candidates with 12 to 15 years of relevant experience.

Requirements

  • 12 to 15 years of experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, or cloud architecture.
  • Proven experience architecting and migrating large enterprise applications to cloud platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with GCP and Kubernetes; Kubernetes expertise is identified as a deal-breaker skill.
  • Proven experience designing stateful, scalable, and highly available systems.
  • Strong understanding of stateful applications and session lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on or architecture-level experience with Valkey/Redis caching solutions.
  • Strong background in legacy application modernization and cloud enablement.
  • Experience with DNS-based service discovery and routing mechanisms.
  • Strong GCP networking knowledge, including fixed-IP replacement strategies and load balancing.
  • Knowledge of availability and failover strategies.
  • Understanding of application performance, scalability, resiliency, and availability requirements.
  • Experience designing high-availability, low-latency transaction-processing systems.
  • Understanding of cloud security, observability, monitoring, and operational readiness.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and drive migration of a large monolithic Java application to GCP while preserving existing functional and non-functional behaviors.
  • Define the target-state GCP architecture, migration approach, and cloud enablement strategy.
  • Design and manage stateful session and connection management across cloud instances and containers.
  • Implement DNS-based service discovery to replace fixed-IP dependencies and design DNS routing strategies that reduce server-IP coupling.
  • Design and validate application connectivity across GCP services and GKE.
  • Design GKE architecture for scalability, resilience, availability, and stateful workload requirements.
  • Validate application and session persistence during GCP instance and GKE pod restarts.
  • Design and implement highly available and scalable Valkey/Redis-based caching solutions.
  • Collaborate with application, network, security, DevOps, and platform teams to resolve connectivity, latency, availability, and session-management challenges.
  • Define architectural guardrails, patterns, and best practices for enterprise workloads on GCP.
  • Design high-availability and failover strategies for business-critical applications.
  • Review and validate architecture designs, proofs of concept, migration plans, and implementation artifacts.
  • Identify application dependencies, migration risks, technical constraints, and required cloud remediation.
  • Lead architecture decisions across application, cloud, networking, security, and DevOps teams.
