About The Position

UNC Health Medical Group, in partnership with UNC Health Johnston, is seeking a full-time Gastroenterology Hospitalist physician to join the team at UNC REX Digestive Health. The position is based in Smithfield, North Carolina, and is part of UNC REX Healthcare. UNC REX Digestive Health has provided gastroenterology care in the Raleigh/Eastern North Carolina area for more than 50 years.

The physician will perform procedures including EGD, colonoscopy, push enteroscopy, and video capsule endoscopy reading. ERCP is preferred but not required. The average procedure volume is 8–12 per day, with HOPD cases followed by inpatient cases. APPs will round and staff with the physician.

The schedule is seven days on and seven days off. On weekdays during the on-week, hours are generally 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with scopes likely from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Weekends during the on-week are remote, with APPs rounding; the physician must be available for inpatient calls and triage. There is no current plan for weekend procedures and no night call. The position is onsite and has 40 standard hours per week.

Smithfield is in Johnston County, North Carolina, approximately a 20-minute drive from Raleigh. The area offers small-town character, nearby cities, quiet neighborhoods, health care, dining, entertainment, shopping, and access to major roads.

Requirements

• MD or DO physician qualification, as indicated by the position title.
