About The Position

C.J. Hughes Construction is seeking a Gas Distribution Laborer to assist its natural gas installation crew with daily field operations. The role primarily involves hands-on labor supporting the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of underground natural gas pipelines. Work includes physical tasks at outdoor construction sites in varying weather conditions, with a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and productivity. Flagging and traffic control may be required occasionally. This is a full-time position. Typical work weeks range from 40 to 60 hours, and overtime, extended hours, and overnight travel may be required based on workload and job location. Pay is $18.29–$22.50, based on experience.

Requirements

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Must provide documentation verifying identity and employment eligibility in accordance with federal I-9 requirements.
Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
Must be willing to travel and work in different areas as needed.
Must follow all safety policies and procedures.
Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor.
Must be able to work overtime and extended hours based on workload.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting; ability to perform physically demanding labor for extended periods.
Strong communication and listening skills; ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a crew.
Strong awareness of job site safety and surroundings; reliable, dependable, and strong work ethic.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
At least 1 year of construction labor experience preferred.
Plastic fusion experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Perform physical labor, including digging, lifting, carrying, and handling materials, tools, and equipment.
Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of underground natural gas pipelines.
Assist with trenching, backfilling, grading, and general site preparation.
Support pipe handling, alignment, and installation activities.
Follow directions from supervisors and crew leaders and communicate effectively with team members.
Maintain awareness of safety procedures, especially when working within the red zone of heavy equipment operations.
Use hand tools and construction equipment safely and effectively.
Assist with job site setup and cleanup, including staging materials and equipment.
Adapt to different job sites and schedules, overtime, and overnight travel as needed.
Set up and remove barricades, traffic cones, and warning signs when traffic control or flagging duties are required.
Work safely outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining productivity and meeting safety and quality expectations.
Perform other duties as assigned by a supervisor or management.
