About The Position

Ameren Illinois provides electric transmission and distribution service and natural gas distribution service to customers in central and southern Illinois. The Gas Apprentice performs gas service work, including responding to gas emergencies, installing and maintaining residential and large commercial gas meters, performing pipe work on customer premises, and working on gas appliances. The role requires availability for shift work, overtime, and emergency call-outs. The listed schedule is day shift, Monday through Friday. The successful candidate must reside within 25 miles of the operating location. Hourly pay is $42.58 (Grade Step BF 002, Step 1 of 1, Top Step). The position is eligible for annual incentive payments based on company performance and at management’s discretion. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Must become respirator qualified.
• Ability to work with the public.
• Availability for shift work, overtime, and emergency call-outs.
• Must pass the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test.
• Successful completion of Gas Evaluations.
• Must pass the applicable state and federal driver's licensing requirements, physical screening, and drug screening.
• Must reside within 25 miles of the operating location.

Nice To Haves

• Welding, pipefitting, HVAC, and/or excavating equipment operation experience.

Responsibilities

• Respond to gas emergencies, including leaks, carbon monoxide incidents, and fire calls.
• Set and maintain residential and large commercial gas meter installations.
• Perform pipe work on customer premises.
• Work on gas appliances.
