About The Position

Ameren Illinois is hiring a Gas Apprentice to perform gas service duties for residential and commercial customers. The work includes responding to gas emergencies such as leaks, carbon monoxide incidents, and fire calls; installing and maintaining gas meters; performing pipe work on customer premises; and working on gas appliances. The position requires shift-work availability, overtime, and emergency call-outs. The listed schedule is day shift, Monday through Friday. The successful candidate must reside within 25 miles of the operating location. The role pays $42.58 per hour at Grade Step BF 002, Step 1 of 1 (Top Step), and is eligible for annual incentive payments based on company performance, subject to management discretion.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), including passing the applicable state and federal driver licensing requirements.
• Ability to become respirator qualified.
• Ability to work with the public.
• Availability for shift work and overtime.
• Pass the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test.
• Successfully complete Gas Evaluations.
• Pass the required physical and drug screening.
• Reside within 25 miles of the operating location.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in welding, pipefitting, HVAC, and/or excavating equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Respond to gas emergencies, including leaks, carbon monoxide incidents, and fire calls.
• Set and maintain residential and large commercial gas meter installations.
• Perform pipe work on customers’ premises.
• Work on gas appliances and maintain knowledge of them.
• Be available for shift work, overtime, and emergency call-outs.
