About The Position

Interstate Waste Services is hiring Garbage Truck-Collection Helpers in Danbury, CT. This is a year-round, steady work position with an early start time, Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays. The role involves collecting and loading refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle, primarily by hand. Helpers are not permitted to operate a company vehicle unless designated as a CDL Helper. The position reports to the Operations Manager onsite and is also subject to supervision by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers. Responsibilities include transferring refuse safely, assisting the driver, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, learning garbage routes, and attending required training and safety meetings.

Requirements

Must meet physical standards: able to physically mount and dismount the truck throughout the work day, constantly lift, push, and pull waste bags and receptacles that weigh approximately 50-75+ lbs.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Legally eligible to work in the United States.
Team-player attitude.
Resume/list of work history with employment dates must be included to be considered for employment.

Nice To Haves

Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Collect (primarily by hand) and load refuse from customer locations into a heavy-duty sanitation vehicle.
Transfer refuse in a timely and safe manner from customer stops to vehicle.
Assist the driver while maneuvering into positions for collection and disposal.
Maintain and partake in daily clean-up of vehicle.
Learn garbage routes to better assist driver.
Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings.
