About The Position

This role involves setting up and breaking down office furniture, cubicles, modular furniture, and office equipment. The position may also assist with space planning and drawings. Responsibilities include transporting various types of office and classroom furniture and equipment, ordering and picking up materials, and operating vehicles such as forklifts and golf carts. Additionally, the role may involve minor facility repairs, painting, and operating hand and power tools. For Facilities Technician II, responsibilities include reading furniture office plans, performing lead activities, directing Facilities Technician I, and meeting with University departmental staff for pre-planning move requirements.

Requirements

  • Physical strength and capability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Ability to push/pull equipment on carts.
  • Ability to climb stairs and walk long distances across campus for extended periods.
  • Ability to read drawings, space plans, or blueprints with good spatial recognition.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work cohesively with team partners.
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as necessary.
  • Knowledge of safety and security precautions and occupational hazards.
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines and/or precautions.
  • Good customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work efficiently and follow instructions or directions from others.

  • Must pass background checks.

  • Requires knowledge of basic mathematical concepts and the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including geometry or algebra (Facilities Technician II only).

Responsibilities

  • Work independently or as part of a team to complete work order assignments or supervisor-assigned tasks.
  • Maintain accurate logs or records.
  • Set up and break down office furniture, cubicles, modular furniture, and office equipment.
  • Assist with space planning and drawings as requested.
  • Transport office or classroom furniture and electronic/office equipment using hands, hand carts, trucks, etc.
  • Order and/or pick up materials and supplies from vendors or warehouse.
  • Operate vehicles such as forklift, trucks, golf carts, gators, etc.
  • Assist in preparing new facilities for office moves, including minor repairs, painting, filling cracks/holes, and replacing light fixture covers.
  • Operate a variety of hand or power tools such as drills, saws, hammers, screw drivers, wrenches, power paint spray, etc.
  • Read furniture office plans, drawings, and schematics to understand layout (Facilities Technician II).
  • Perform lead activities, providing direction to Facilities Technician I (Facilities Technician II).
  • Contact appropriate staff regarding issues (Facilities Technician II).
  • Perform mathematical calculations for office/classroom measurements and arrangements (Facilities Technician II).
  • Set up modular equipment and office cubicle panels ensuring electrical connectivity (Facilities Technician II).
  • Meet with University departmental staff on pre-planning move requirements (Facilities Technician II).
