About The Position

Weyerhaeuser's MDF facility has a career opportunity for a Functional Area Leader in Production. The successful candidate will have strong leadership and technical capabilities and the ability to grow and develop as a future leader. This position will help to develop leadership, focus safety and work toward operational excellence; also, a successful candidate will help drive quality and production goals, coordinate and maintain operational schedules and support the business to ensure continuous process improvement. A Functional Area Leader provides direct leadership to a team of hourly team members. This role will report to the Operation Manager. Key Functions The functional area leader has ownership of the people, processes, equipment and results of a specific functional area including continuous improvement. Provide daily leadership and oversight of functional area team members on all crews. Role model all standards/processes by living our core values of safety, integrity, citizenship, sustainability and inclusion. Improve and maintain functional area performance according to set objectives and established goals for safety, quality, process reliability, cost control and people development. Scheduling and attending regular production/safety meetings and facilitating proactive problem-solving. Actively be involved in assigning work and evaluating job performance. Support cross training initiatives to increase talent depth. Support, coach and provide timely feedback and direction to team members. Meet production standards and goals. Efficiently manage downtime events.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Demonstrated leadership results in safety
  • Demonstrated ability to raise performance by building and maintaining positive relationships with all associates through coaching, development and instilling a continuous improvement mind-set
  • Able to effectively support alignment and focus across multiple departments
  • Demonstrated results in achieving and sustaining business goals in a complex and fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated ability in leading a team to achieve breakthrough results
  • Ability to generate commitment and motivate employees toward a common goal
  • Strong work ethic, good judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills

  • Strong written & verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge and ability in utilizing computers in a business environment
  • Must be able to accept and respond to after-hours calls, work weekends/holidays as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management or other related field preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred
