About The Position

The Department of Justice & Law in the College of Arts & Sciences at Quinnipiac University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in Legal Studies with a focus on Emerging Legal Technologies and Civil Procedures. The position requires a commitment to undergraduate teaching, scholarly research, and program leadership. The successful candidate will teach core legal studies courses, including Civil Procedure, and develop new courses in law and technology, particularly artificial intelligence. This role also involves serving as Program Coordinator for the Law in Society Major and Minor, the Legal Studies Minor, and the ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate, providing academic and administrative leadership. The department emphasizes interdisciplinary legal education and experiential learning, including internships and a 3+3 BA/BS-JD program. The position is housed within an interdisciplinary department offering majors in Criminal Justice and Law in Society, and encourages candidates whose work bridges law with other disciplines like cybersecurity, technology policy, and digital governance.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate (or equivalent terminal degree) in a law-related field or closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.
  • Evidence of, or strong potential for, an active scholarly agenda.
  • Interest in or experience with legal technology, artificial intelligence, or other emerging issues affecting the legal profession.
  • Demonstrated ability or strong potential to provide academic program leadership.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • A J.D. and admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction are preferred.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Experience in civil legal practice.
  • Experience teaching in undergraduate higher education.
  • Experience developing or teaching courses in legal technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity law, or related fields.
  • Experience with academic program administration, curriculum development, assessment, or accreditation.
  • Interest in or experience with interdisciplinary teaching, particularly in Criminal Justice or cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in legal studies, including Civil Procedure, and courses aligned with areas of expertise.
  • Develop and teach courses in emerging areas such as law and technology, artificial intelligence, and related topics.
  • Maintain an active research agenda, including scholarly presentations and publications.
  • Advise and mentor students in support of their academic and professional development.
  • Contribute to departmental, college, and university service.
  • Serve as Program Coordinator for the Law in Society and Legal Studies programs, providing leadership for curriculum, operations, advising, and strategic development.
  • Lead curriculum development, program planning, assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement in collaboration with the Department Chair.
  • Manage the ABA approval process for the Paralegal Certificate, including preparation of interim reports, program documentation, and ongoing compliance with ABA requirements.
  • Coordinate course scheduling, advising, and instructional assignments in collaboration with the Department Chair and Dean's Office.
  • Serve as the primary academic contact for students in the Law in Society and Legal Studies programs and oversee advising structures.
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate adjunct faculty in coordination with the Department Chair.
  • Lead recruitment, communications, and outreach initiatives to enhance program visibility and enrollment.
  • Develop and sustain partnerships to support internships and other experiential learning opportunities.
  • Monitor trends in legal education, emerging technologies, and the legal profession to inform curricular innovation and strategic planning.
  • Foster alumni engagement and support the development of an external advisory council.
