About The Position

This position is for a Full-Time Tenure-Track Transitional Studies Faculty/I-BEST Coordinator (Temporary). The faculty member will provide teaching to a diverse student population, including those in the High School + and GED programs. Additionally, they will lead and coordinate the college's I-BEST programs, working collaboratively with faculty, academic and workforce programs, advising staff, and administrators to develop, implement, and support integrated education and workforce training programs. Responsibilities include delivering effective instruction in essential math, writing, communication, and academic skills tailored to I-BEST students, co-teaching with content area faculty, and providing basic skills instruction in the Transitional Studies program. A one-third release will be provided for I-BEST coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education- preferably in Adult Basic Education or closely related field.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds and educational skill levels.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, learning management systems (Olympic College uses Canvas), video conferencing, and other instructional technology.
  • Experience with integrated and/or contextualized instruction.
  • Experience in curriculum development and modification.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in face-to-face, online, and hybrid environments.
  • Excellent English speaking, writing, listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Adult Education or closely related field.
  • Community college teaching experience in mathematics, reading, and writing preferred.
  • Teaching basic skills in an integrated format, either in the workplace or in the context of a professional/technical training program.
  • Experience implementing Basic Skills requirements of the Washington State Adult Basic Education System, i.e., Washington State Adult Learning Standards, College and Career Readiness Standards.
  • Successful experience working as part of an educational team.
  • Student advising and recruitment experience desired.
  • Faculty administrative experience (i.e., coordinator, chair).

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality teaching within the Transitional Studies program or related instructional areas, including related preparation, grading, and recordkeeping.
  • Teach academic and/or vocationally specific reading, writing, and/or math.
  • Team-teach in classroom and laboratory settings (supporting students in basic skill areas as needed).
  • Coordinate with workforce programs and academic divisions to identify courses appropriate for I-BEST integration.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of I-BEST classes in collaboration with instructional staff and faculty.
  • Submit applications for new I-BEST programs in alignment with Olympic College workforce and career pathways.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, and onboarding I-BEST instructors.
  • Coordinate training for new I-BEST instructional teams.
  • Facilitate collaboration between I-BEST faculty teams.
  • Assist in preparation of I-BEST grants.
  • Prepare required reports for the college and state agencies.
  • Maintain program documentation and ensure compliance with program guidelines.
  • Provide orientation and advising support to students enrolled in I-BEST programs.
  • Collaborate with advising staff to support student pathway transitions.
