Senior/Staff Full Stack Software Engineer

Trase Systems•McLean, VA
•$180,000 - $240,000

About The Position

As a Senior or Staff Full Stack Software Engineer at Trase, you will build and support software for Red Cell Federal (RCF), Red Cell Partners (RCP), and RCP incubations and portfolio companies. You will join Trase's dedicated RCF/RCP support team, delivering user interfaces, backend services, APIs, and integrations, with a strong focus on federal, government, and national security programs. The role helps RCF and other RCP partner companies adopt Trase OS and build secure AI applications for their missions. This is a hands-on role with ownership from requirements through production support. You will work directly with partner engineers, Product, the dedicated TPM and DevOps/SRE engineers, Trase Platform Engineering, and GRC to deliver solutions across frontend, backend, and integration layers. Senior engineers independently own complex features and partner integrations end to end; Staff engineers also lead architecture across engagements, establish reusable engineering patterns, and mentor engineers. The role addresses partner-specific functionality gaps, diagnoses issues across application and platform boundaries, and delivers small, validated increments. It also turns recurring partner needs into reusable improvements with Trase's platform team. Some travel to customers may be required.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping and supporting production applications and scope and technical leadership appropriate to Senior or Staff level.
  • 5+ years of hands-on full-stack development spanning modern web frontends, backend services, APIs, and databases.
  • Strong frontend skills with TypeScript/JavaScript and React, Next.js, or comparable frameworks, including state management, API integration, and clear, accessible user experiences.
  • Strong backend engineering skills in Python, TypeScript/Node.js, Go, Java, or a similar language, including API design, service integration, validation, and error handling.
  • Experience designing data models and working with relational databases, migrations, caching, and asynchronous or event-driven processing.
  • Experience implementing authentication, authorization, secure API access, secrets handling, and audit logging in production applications.
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing, code review, Git, containers, CI/CD, and deploying or troubleshooting applications in cloud or Kubernetes environments.
  • Ability to debug across browser, service, API, and data layers using logs, metrics, and traces, and to own issues through validated resolution.
  • Strong technical judgment, clear written and verbal communication, and experience translating ambiguous customer requirements into maintainable solutions and useful documentation.
  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools to improve implementation, testing, troubleshooting, or code review, with careful validation of resulting changes.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior full-stack software engineering experience supporting national security, defense, federal agencies, or other government programs.
  • An active U.S. government security clearance.
  • Experience with federal application security and delivery requirements, such as STIG hardening, NIST controls, RMF/ATO evidence, FedRAMP, or DoD impact-level environments.
  • Experience integrating identity providers such as Keycloak using OAuth/OIDC, or implementing fine-grained access and sensitive-data controls.
  • Experience building AI/LLM applications, agent integrations, RAG, tool/MCP connections, evaluations, or workflow systems such as Temporal.
  • Customer-facing or forward-deployed engineering experience across multiple partner organizations, including onboarding, technical handoffs, and ongoing support.
  • Experience adapting applications for government cloud, restricted-network, or on-premises deployments, including Second Front or comparable federal delivery platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Build full-stack features for RCF/RCP partners, including responsive user interfaces, administrative tools, backend services, data models, and production integrations.
  • Work with partner engineers and Product to clarify use cases, reproduce issues, define acceptance criteria, deliver small increments, and surface scope, dependencies, and risks with the TPM before committing dates.
  • Integrate partner applications and agents with Trase OS APIs and SDKs, external APIs, MCP tools, and model-provider endpoints; provide working examples and integration documentation.
  • Build reliable agent and workflow integrations, including asynchronous execution, event streaming, state handling, retries, timeouts, and error recovery, while preserving correctness and data integrity.
  • Create interfaces for configuring agents, managing connections and policies, reviewing runs, and inspecting logs, traces, costs, and audit history; make failures and recovery actions understandable to users.
  • Implement authentication, authorization, role-based access, secrets integration, and audit events across frontend and backend services; partner with Governance, Risk and Compliance on application security findings and engineering evidence for applicable federal requirements.
  • Adapt application configuration and dependencies for customer-managed cloud, private-network, and on-premises environments; work with DevOps/SRE on packaging, deployment prerequisites, and end-to-end validation.
  • Own quality through code reviews, unit and integration tests, end-to-end tests, representative workflow evaluations, and regression coverage; verify application behavior in target environments before partner handoff.
  • Diagnose and resolve partner-reported defects across the UI, APIs, SDK, data stores, and runtime services; add telemetry, support incident investigations, and validate fixes with partners.
  • Support releases, upgrades, and ongoing application maintenance, including federal deployments such as Second Front where applicable; review and integrate partner contributions, maintain API/SDK compatibility, and coordinate security fixes with platform and DevOps/SRE owners.
  • Document architecture, setup, known limitations, and troubleshooting steps; provide partner walkthroughs and knowledge transfer; share reusable solutions with the platform team and mentor other engineers.
