Full-Stack Software Engineer (Top Secret clearance)

STR•Arlington, VA
•$140,000 - $190,000•Hybrid

About The Position

STR is seeking an experienced Full-Stack Engineer to design and deliver high-impact web applications for defense and intelligence missions. The engineer will build AI- and data-centric applications that help users analyze information, make decisions, and work with advanced software systems. These are mission-focused applications for operational and analytical use, rather than corporate or marketing websites. The position is intended for experienced developers through technical leads, not entry-level candidates. The role contributes to a new development effort from design and implementation through demonstration. It is hybrid, with a target of two days at either the Woburn, Massachusetts, or Arlington, Virginia, office. The engineer will develop responsive React applications, translate design direction into production interfaces, shape workflows and reusable front-end foundations, and collaborate with designers, stakeholders, users, and clients. The role also designs APIs and back-end services, supports application and service architecture, integrates systems and AI-enabled workflows, and contributes to containerized application design and deployment where appropriate. The engineer will improve performance, responsiveness, accessibility, and maintainability; support demonstrations and user feedback cycles; help transition prototypes to deployed capabilities; and document technical decisions and software, including user training guides. STR specializes in advanced research and development for defense, intelligence, and national security, including cyber, sensors, radar, sonar, communications, electronic warfare, and artificial intelligence. The company describes its culture as collaborative and learning-oriented.

  • Ability to turn design direction, mockups, prototypes, or component libraries into production user interfaces.
  • Experience collaborating with designers, users, product owners, or other stakeholders to improve workflows and usability.
  • Good judgment regarding interaction design, interface clarity, and user experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing services or back-end application layers and integrating front-end applications with APIs and supporting services.
  • Experience with GraphQL, WebSockets, containerized deployment, or cloud-hosted application environments.
