Full Stack Software Engineer - SQL Console
About The Position
The SQL Console team operates like an autonomous startup within ClickHouse, building web interfaces, interactive query environments, data visualization dashboards, and AI agents that developers use to interact with ClickHouse Cloud. The team addresses demanding UI performance and scalability challenges, emphasizes building and modern AI coding tools, and gives engineers end-to-end product ownership. The Full Stack Software Engineer will build interactive React applications, developer tools, and IDE extensions that handle real-time, high-throughput data streaming. The role includes optimizing frontend rendering, state management, and DOM virtualization for large datasets and complex visualizations, as well as writing Node.js/Express services when backend, API, or streaming optimizations are needed. Engineers are expected to take ownership of ambiguous product problems, architect solutions, and ship maintainable code with autonomy, using modern AI development tools to accelerate delivery.
Requirements
- Deep expertise building complex, state-heavy web applications in React, using tools such as Zustand, Redux, TanStack Query, or Context API.
- Proven ability to handle high-volume data rendering using DOM virtualization such as react-window, Canvas/D3.js, or memoization techniques.
- Strong hands-on experience writing asynchronous Node.js/Express microservices and streaming APIs.
- A founder or builder mindset, with experience as a startup founder, side-project creator, or early engineer, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced environments without rigid specifications.
Nice To Haves
- Experience building VS Code extensions, web-based IDEs, query editors such as Monaco, or developer tools.
- Hands-on experience with ClickHouse or columnar real-time databases.
Responsibilities
- Build highly interactive React web applications, developer tools, and IDE extensions that handle real-time, high-throughput data streaming.
- Optimize frontend rendering performance, state management, and DOM virtualization for large-scale datasets and complex visualizations.
- Write high-performance Node.js/Express services when API, data streaming, or backend optimizations are required.
- Take ambiguous product problems from problem definition through architecture and delivery of maintainable code.
- Use modern AI development tools, including Cursor, Claude, and Codex, to accelerate feature delivery.
