About The Position

Rivet is an AI-native accounting firm that has rapidly grown into a T500 firm in the US. They combine corporate and personal income tax, sales tax, R&D credits, and bookkeeping into a unified experience. Their platform is designed to be seamless, automating tasks for preparers and guiding clients. Rivet operates its own firm on its own platform, allowing for deep AI integration. The company supports over 1,000 innovative companies and their executives. The founding team has strong backgrounds from companies like Ramp and the IRS. Rivet is well-funded, experiencing rapid growth, and sustainable, having raised over $7 million from notable investors. This internship is unique as it does not follow a traditional program structure. Interns will work on the same projects as full-time engineers, shipping directly to production with real users and consequences. They will have ownership from the initial commit through to maintenance, with direct mentorship. Engineers at Rivet interact directly with clients and tax preparers, and interns will too. The company values direct feedback and hires based on potential ('slope') rather than just credentials.

Requirements

Have built things outside of coursework — side projects, open source, a company, something you shipped because you wanted it to exist.
Working knowledge of at least one of Go or React, and real interest in the other.
Ability to read unfamiliar code and make progress without a tutorial.
Clear writing skills, as most of the job is remote and asynchronous.
Desire for feedback and the ability to act on it.
Enrolled in or recently out of a degree program, or self-taught and at an equivalent point.

Nice To Haves

Postgres experience beyond an ORM.
Exposure to protobuf, gRPC, or typed API clients.
Experience using LLMs to build something real, with opinions on their limitations.
Curiosity about tax, accounting, or other domains where accuracy is critical.

Responsibilities

Own a scoped feature end to end — Postgres schema, Go service, protobuf contract, React screen.
Pair with the engineer who owns that module, with a named mentor from day one and a standing weekly meeting.
Work on automation problems, including parsing scanned filings and reconciling ledgers.
Talk to accountants daily to understand issues and gather feedback.
Ask questions in public channels to avoid getting stuck.
