About The Position

Capital One is seeking a Full-stack Software Engineer to help drive a major technology transformation. The role leads a portfolio of technology projects and provides technical direction across Agile teams, building distributed microservices and full-stack systems that meet regulatory needs and support customer experiences. The engineer collaborates with digital product managers and architects, contributes to technology strategy, and helps establish standards for design, development, and operational excellence. The position uses programming languages, databases, container orchestration, and cloud services, with a “you build it, you own it” approach.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
• At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
• At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7 or more years of coding experience with more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, and Scala.
• 3 or more years of experience with databases and database management systems.
• 3 or more years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
• 4 or more years of experience contributing to open-source frameworks.
• 3 or more years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• 4 or more years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• 3 or more years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
• 3 or more years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
• 3 or more years of experience troubleshooting technical issues within cloud environments.
• Experience leveraging modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
• At least 1 year of experience mentoring engineers and driving professional development within technical teams.
• At least 1 year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, using capabilities beyond basic code completion.
• Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
• Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers building distributed microservices and full-stack systems.
• Stay current with technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in technology communities, and mentor engineering colleagues.
• Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions.
• Use programming languages, databases, container orchestration services, and AWS tools and services to develop solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, setting standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
• Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks.
• Identify areas for improvement and implement targeted refactoring to reduce technical debt and enhance system performance.
• Influence long-term technology strategy by evaluating emerging tools and practices.
• Mentor engineers and drive professional development within technical teams.
• Use observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Lead cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives and establish coding standards and design patterns across teams.
