About The Position
Join the Garage Team at Capital One, the innovation hub for its Financial Services division, to build technology and products using tools such as AI/ML and advanced analytics. The role includes work on initiatives such as the internal Developer Navigation Hub and FS Tech AI Labs, setting architectural standards, and delivering responsible GenAI use cases to improve engineering workflows and customer experiences. The Full-stack Engineer leads technology projects and developers working on distributed microservices and full-stack systems, and provides technical direction across Agile teams. The role collaborates with product managers and architects to deliver cloud-based solutions, define service boundaries and reusable frameworks, and establish standards for design, development, and operational excellence. Engineers work in a “you build it, you own it” environment, continually evaluating emerging technology and improving performance, system quality, and technical debt.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
- At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7+ years of coding experience with more than two of the following: Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala.
- 3+ years of experience with databases and database management systems.
- 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- 4+ years of experience contributing to open-source frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
- 4+ years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
- 3+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
- 3+ years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
- 3+ years of experience troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
- Experience leveraging modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
- At least 1 year of experience mentoring engineers and driving professional development within technical teams.
- At least 1 year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
- Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity beyond basic code completion.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
- Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers working with distributed microservices and full-stack systems to meet company regulatory needs.
- Stay current with technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in technology communities, and mentor engineers.
- Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions and customer experiences.
- Use programming languages, databases, container orchestration, and AWS tools and services to develop solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, establishing standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
- Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and implement refactoring to reduce technical debt and enhance system performance.
- Evaluate emerging tools and practices to influence long-term technology strategy.
