About The Position

Capital One is seeking a Full Stack Engineer for its Bank Technology team to build greenfield applications used by business clients and help shape the modern digital banking experience. The role involves architecting responsive interfaces that support money movement, vendor payments, and financial reporting. The engineer will lead technology projects and developers, provide technical direction across Agile teams, and build cloud-based solutions that address business and regulatory needs. The role also includes partnering with product managers and architects, promoting engineering practices and operational excellence, mentoring colleagues, reducing technical debt, and influencing technology strategy in a “you build it, you own it” environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
• At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
• At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7 or more years of coding experience with more than two of the following: Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala.
• 3 or more years of experience with databases and database management systems.
• 3 or more years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
• 4 or more years of experience contributing to open-source frameworks.
• 3 or more years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• 4 or more years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• 3 or more years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
• 3 or more years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
• 3 or more years of experience troubleshooting technical issues within cloud environments.
• Experience using modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
• At least 1 year of experience mentoring engineers and supporting professional development in technical teams.
• At least 1 year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity beyond basic code completion.
• Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
• Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers working on distributed microservices and full-stack systems to meet company and regulatory needs.
• Stay current with technology trends, experiment with new technologies, participate in technology communities, and mentor members of the engineering community.
• Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions and customer experiences.
• Use programming languages, databases, container orchestration services, and AWS tools and services to build applications.
• Provide technical leadership across Agile teams and set standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
• Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks.
• Identify areas for improvement, implement targeted refactoring, and help reduce technical debt and improve system performance.
• Evaluate emerging tools and practices to influence long-term technology strategy.
