About The Position

Join the Dealer Tech division within Capital One's Financial Services Technology group to develop and support technology that streamlines auto financing for dealers. The team builds integrated, secure, user-friendly platforms that enhance dealer operations and customer experiences while supporting compliance with financial regulations. Its systems facilitate auto financing from loan origination through funding.

Capital One is seeking a full-stack software engineer passionate about open-source frameworks and emerging technologies. The role leads technology projects and developers, provides technical leadership across Agile teams, and partners with product managers and architects to deliver cloud-based solutions. The engineer will help shape technology strategy and standards, improve system performance, reduce technical debt, and work in a “you build it, you own it” environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
• At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not count.
• At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7 or more years of coding experience with more than two of the following: Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala.
• 3 or more years of experience with databases and database management systems.
• 3 or more years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
• 4 or more years of experience contributing to open-source frameworks.
• 3 or more years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• 4 or more years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• 3 or more years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
• 3 or more years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
• 3 or more years of experience troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
• Experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
• At least 1 year of experience mentoring engineers and supporting their professional development in technical teams.
• At least 1 year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, using capabilities beyond basic code completion.
• Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
• Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers working with distributed microservices and full-stack systems to address regulatory needs.
• Keep current with technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, and mentor engineering colleagues.
• Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions that support customer experiences and financial empowerment.
• Use programming languages, databases, container orchestration, and AWS tools and services to build and operate solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, establishing standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
• Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks.
• Identify areas for improvement, implement targeted refactoring, and contribute to reducing technical debt and improving system performance.
• Influence long-term technology strategy by evaluating emerging tools and practices in a “you build it, you own it” environment.
