Full-stack Engineer 4 (Manager IC)
About The Position
Capital One is seeking a Full-stack Engineer to help lead a major technology transformation. The role leads a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers working with distributed microservices and full-stack systems to create solutions that meet regulatory needs. The engineer provides technical leadership across Agile teams, partners with product managers and architects, and delivers cloud-based solutions. The work includes defining service boundaries and integration patterns, establishing design and development standards, reducing technical debt, improving performance, and influencing long-term technology strategy in a “you build it, you own it” environment. The role also promotes learning, experimentation, participation in technology communities, and mentorship.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
- At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7 or more years of coding experience with more than two of the following: Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala.
- 3 or more years of experience with databases and database management systems.
- 3 or more years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- 4 or more years of experience contributing to open-source frameworks.
- 3 or more years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
- 4 or more years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
- 3 or more years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
- 3 or more years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
- 3 or more years of experience troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
- Experience leveraging modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
- At least 1 year of experience mentoring engineers and driving professional development within technical teams.
- At least 1 year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
- Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity using capabilities beyond basic code completion.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
- Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers working with distributed microservices and full-stack systems.
- Share knowledge of technology trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participate in internal and external technology communities, and mentor engineers.
- Collaborate with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions.
- Use programming languages including Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript; open-source RDBMS and NoSQL databases; Docker and Kubernetes; and AWS tools and services.
- Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, setting standards for design, development, and operational excellence.
- Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and implement targeted refactoring to reduce technical debt and enhance system performance.
- Influence long-term technology strategy by evaluating emerging tools and practices in a “you build it, you own it” environment.
