Full Stack Engineer 4 (Lead / Manager IC)
About The Position
Capital One is seeking a full-stack software engineer to help drive a major technology transformation. The role leads a portfolio of technology projects and a team of developers working with distributed microservices and full-stack systems to create solutions that address regulatory needs. The engineer collaborates with digital product managers to deliver cloud-based solutions and provides technical leadership across Agile teams, establishing standards for design, development, and operational excellence. The role partners with architects on service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks; identifies opportunities for refactoring, reducing technical debt, and improving system performance; and influences long-term technology strategy by evaluating emerging tools and practices. It operates in a “you build it, you own it” environment and encourages learning, participation in technology communities, and mentoring. Technologies mentioned include Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, open-source relational and NoSQL databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS tools and services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, such as Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
- At least 4 years of software engineering experience; internship experience does not apply.
- At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7 or more years of coding experience with more than two of the following: Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala.
- Experience building agentic AI systems and agentic workflows.
- Experience designing, developing, delivering, and supporting AI services.
- 3 or more years of experience with databases and database management systems.
- 3 or more years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
- 4 or more years of experience contributing to open-source frameworks.
- 3 or more years of experience with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
- 4 or more years of experience creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
- 3 or more years of experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing frameworks.
- 3 or more years of experience using Git-based version-control systems such as Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
- 3 or more years of experience troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
- Experience using modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
- At least 1 year of experience mentoring engineers and supporting professional development within technical teams.
- At least 1 year of experience using observability to identify and optimize performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
- Experience with interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity beyond basic code completion.
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
- Experience establishing and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.
