About The Position

Join a remote product studio’s team building workflow software for a client. The product is live and needs new workflow features while existing functionality continues to run. The client’s engineers also commit to the same repository, so changes must fit alongside concurrent work. The role focuses on the server side, from an Azure SQL database through the API, as well as React and TypeScript interfaces. AI coding tools draft most specifications, tests, and migrations. You will direct those tools, review every line of each diff, and take responsibility for what is merged. You will report to studio leadership and work day to day with a lead developer and a product manager who sets sprint acceptance criteria. Success involves delivering four to five verified features per two-week sprint and owning an area end to end without disrupting live features. This is a fully remote contractor role for someone based in LATAM, full time at approximately 40 hours per week, with core hours in US time zones. The role offers end-to-end ownership of a product area, with schema designs reviewed by the lead developer and client engineers. The team’s daily AI-first delivery process includes tests, CI, and feature flags. The position is expected to start in early November; no year is specified.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience building full-stack web applications and releasing them to production.
  • Experience working in an existing codebase, learning its conventions before making changes.
  • Hands-on experience with workflow software involving role-specific data, approvals, task queues or state machines, and audit logs or versioned history.
  • Experience with React, TypeScript, and SQL on Azure, including schema design and migrations.
  • Daily production use of Cursor, Claude Code, or a similar AI coding tool, supported by tests and CI.
  • Clear written and spoken English, including writing pull requests that explain changes, rationale, and testing, and explaining tradeoffs to another team's engineers.
  • Experience delivering fixed-scope sprints using branches, code review, and feature flags.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a regulated setting such as finance, health, or insurance.
  • Experience migrating a legacy system with reconciliation and duplicate review.
  • Experience as an outside vendor committing to a client's repository.
  • Experience creating project rules, custom prompts, or agent setups for AI coding tools that a team adopted.
  • Spanish language skills, as the platform is bilingual.

Responsibilities

  • Extend the production Azure SQL database with tables, permissions, and versioned records.
  • Implement server-side workflow rules, including state machines, approval gates, and independent review steps.
  • Enforce role-based access by company and assignment at both the database and API levels.
  • Build audit logging, stale-write protection, and idempotent endpoints to prevent duplicate data on retries.
  • Build React and TypeScript work queues, bulk assignment tools, and dashboards.
  • Integrate email, SMS, and file-storage providers, and design sync APIs used by the mobile application.
  • Write migrations from legacy sources, including reconciliation reports and a duplicate-review step.
  • Break sprint scope into small pull requests and verify every acceptance criterion before merging.
  • Direct AI coding tools, review their generated changes line by line, and take responsibility for merged work.

Benefits

  • Fully remote work from LATAM.
  • Full-time contractor role at approximately 40 hours per week.
  • End-to-end ownership of a product area, with schema designs reviewed by the lead developer and client engineers.
  • Work in a team where AI-first delivery is routine and tests, CI, and feature flags are part of the normal process.
