•$150,000 - $180,000•Onsite

About The Position

TouchCare is hiring its first internal full-stack engineer, with a focus on modernizing its technology stack and building AI-driven healthcare navigation solutions. The Applied AI Engineer will design, build, deploy, and maintain production software used by members and care advocates in a HIPAA-regulated environment. The role reports directly to the COO and works closely with operations and member services teams, as well as an external technology consultancy of 8–9 engineers that manages core infrastructure and compliance operations. The engineer will build autonomous healthcare navigation agents for processes such as claims triage, benefits navigation, and billing resolution; an internal ticketing and messaging platform for member services; and AI infrastructure, evaluation, observability, and human-escalation tooling to support safe, reliable systems and protect member data. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with engineering lead responsibilities, spanning architecture through production iteration.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of software engineering experience, including meaningful experience building and maintaining production systems.
  • Full-stack engineering capability and comfort owning frontend and backend work across the development lifecycle.

  • Experience in a regulated environment such as HIPAA, SOC 2, PCI, or equivalent.
  • Background in healthcare technology, benefits advocacy, carrier systems, or claims data, or strong interest and willingness to learn the domain.
  • An AI-native workflow using tools such as Cursor, Claude, GPT, or equivalents, with considered views on when and how to use them.
  • Comfort working as an individual contributor with engineering lead responsibilities, making technical decisions, collaborating with external partners, and owning outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with healthcare navigation, employer benefits, or advocacy products.
  • Startup experience, or a track record of shipping quickly in a larger organization while maintaining quality and compliance.
  • Experience modernizing or migrating legacy infrastructure in production.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous messaging platforms or customer service tooling, such as internal ticketing, contact centers, or support platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Own full-stack feature development end-to-end, including architecture, design, implementation, deployment, and iteration.
  • Design and ship production AI agents and workflow automations used by member services and benefits advocacy teams.
  • Collaborate with the COO, operations, and member services teams to understand and improve healthcare and benefits workflows, including claims, coverage issues, billing disputes, and provider coordination.
  • Build and maintain technology in a HIPAA-regulated environment.
  • Partner with the external engineering team to maintain and improve existing systems and help migrate and streamline the technology stack.
  • Design and ship agentic workflows for multi-step healthcare processes, including claims triage, benefits navigation, and billing resolution.
  • Build an internal ticketing and messaging platform with routing, context surfacing, asynchronous messaging, system integrations, and auditability.
  • Develop AI reliability and safety frameworks, human-in-the-loop escalation paths, observability tooling, PHI-flow monitoring, data safeguards, and ongoing quality evaluation.
