Full Day 4K Assistant Teacher
About The Position
The 4 Year Old Kindergarten Assistant is responsible for the care and education of children enrolled in YMCA 4 Year Old Kindergarten programs. The assistant follows YMCA, Stevens Point School District, and state licensing policies and procedures, and supports the 4 Year Old Kindergarten teacher in implementing the curriculum and providing a safe, healthy learning environment. The role requires meeting child care assistant qualifications under DCF 251 Licensing Rules for Group Day Care Centers and experience working with children ages 2½–5 and their families. The assistant should bring creativity, flexibility, high energy, patience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work as part of a team. CPR/AED and First Aid certification is a prerequisite of hire, with up to 90 days after hire allowed to obtain it. The position requires observing children by sight and sound; communicating effectively verbally and in writing with children and adults; lifting children weighing up to approximately 50 pounds; and moving small tables, chairs, and some equipment. Staff remain active throughout class time, which may involve swimming, running, sitting on the floor, and leading large-group games. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Pay is $17.00–$19.00 per hour.
Requirements
- Meet the qualifications for a child care assistant under DCF 251 Licensing Rules for Group Day Care Centers.
- Experience working with children ages 2½–5 and their families.

Responsibilities
- Support the 4 Year Old Kindergarten teacher in implementing the curriculum and providing a safe, healthy learning environment.
- Prepare and serve nutritious snacks and keep the room, toys, and kitchen clean and sanitized.
- Use positive guidance techniques, communicate with children at their developmental level, and encourage independence.
- Establish positive and productive relationships with children and their families.
- Spend the majority of class time directly interacting with children.
- Promote the YMCA mission and values and maintain professionalism and quality programming.
- Attend YMCA and Stevens Point School District staff meetings, trainings, and in-services.
- Follow state licensing regulations, YMCA Quality Standards, and OSHA standards and guidelines.
