About The Position

The First Steps 4K Assistant Teacher supports the safety, education, and care of young children at The Sunshine House. The role involves creating a safe, healthy, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging classroom where children can learn, play, grow, and develop socially and emotionally. Teachers use the Creative Curriculum and Brain Connect programs and implement the South Carolina First Steps 4K curriculum to prepare children for kindergarten. They partner with families through daily app updates and personal conversations, documenting and sharing children’s milestones. The position is available at 8108 Dorchester Road, Charleston, SC 29418, and 4008 Salt Pointe Parkway, North Charleston, SC 29405. Starting pay is $17 per hour, with potential for higher pay based on relevant education and experience.

Requirements

Passion for working with young children.
Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to pass background checks and health assessments.
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds for child safety and emergencies.
ECD 101 or higher for assistant teachers.

Nice To Haves

At least 6 months of experience at a licensed childcare center is preferred.
