About The Position

The Accounting Lead (Non-Supervisory) provides advanced accounting support and serves as a technical resource for the Costs Team Accounting Specialists. This role focuses on coding and reviewing accounting transactions for accuracy, providing guidance and direction on accounting procedures, and supporting consistent application of accounting standards and internal policies across cost functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Two to five years of accounting experience, demonstrating proficiency in accounting tasks and responsibilities.
  • Some accounting experience with applicable healthcare or non-profit may be substituted for education and additional education can be substituted for experience.
  • Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify patterns, trends, and discrepancies and provide actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in Accounting Software: Demonstrated experience and proficiency in using accounting software for general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, with advanced skills in data analysis, modeling, and manipulation. Ability to create complex spreadsheets and pivot tables to support financial analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP: Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and their application in financial reporting and compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in healthcare or non-profit, as it provides familiarity with industry-specific accounting practices and regulations.
  • Report writing experience along with intermediate to advanced excel experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Review program and cost-related transactions to ensure accurate coding to accounts, programs, grants, and cost centers, and maintain schedules and documentation to support financial reporting and audits.
  • Monitor grant and program cost activity and support budget tracking and variance review as needed.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to the Costs Team and Accounting Specialists on cost coding, allocations, and general ledger posting.
  • Serve as a technical resource for questions related to cost accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and routine application of GAAP.
  • Identify and assist with resolving coding issues, reconciling items, and general ledger discrepancies related to program costs.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including review of cost-related journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Serve as secondary backup for program and general ledger accounting functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, and close support as needed.
  • Promote consistency and accuracy in cost accounting and general ledger practices across programs and funding sources.
  • Support accounting for fixed assets, leases, insurance, vehicles, construction in progress (CIP), or other assigned accounting areas, including reconciliations and supporting schedules, as applicable.
  • Provide analysis of assigned accounting and financial reports, documents, processes, and data and offer recommendations when appropriate.
  • Provide audit support as directed, including preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation, and responding to internal and external audit inquiries.
  • Collaborate with finance team members to ensure continuity of accounting operations, assist with workload coverage, and support timely completion of critical accounting tasks.
  • Identify process gaps or training needs related to cost accounting and communicate recommendations to accounting leadership.
  • Perform other cost and general ledger accounting duties as assigned by supervisors, managers, or leadership within Frontier Behavioral Health.
  • Other duties as assigned.
