About The Position

This position assists with the care and maintenance of the Fuel Garden areas on campus and supports the Food Security & Sustainability Initiative’s efforts. Responsibilities include assisting with garden activities like planting, watering, trimming, pruning, and weeding, as well as maintaining hydroponic growing towers and assisting with compost collection and management. The role also involves supporting campus sustainability efforts, assisting with outreach and educational programming, and entering data for record-keeping.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for Fall/Spring semester or 1 credit hour for Summer semester.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. (GPA requirement is waived for first-semester students).
  • Proficient English skills required.
  • Knowledge of garden maintenance is required.
  • Ability to solve problems and exercise good judgment.
  • Must be able to work independently and willing to take initiative.
  • Must be able to work effectively within a team.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods, walking on uneven terrain.
  • Must be comfortable walking, kneeling, bending, and pulling a wagon across campus.
  • Flexibility in tasks and duties is necessary as priorities can shift throughout the season.
  • Should be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and walk on uneven terrain with the expectation that you will get dirty.
  • Bending and lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • A minimum of 2-hour shift availability is required.

Nice To Haves

  • If a Student qualifies for Federal Work Study, the Student will be hired as a Federal Work Study employee to utilize these funds.
  • Organic vegetable production experience is preferred
  • Interest in sustainability and food security is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs and Google platform preferred

Benefits

  • Student Rate 1 - $15.00 per hour
