Frontend Software Engineer

KeplerNew York, NY
$200,000 - $280,000Onsite

About The Position

Kepler is building the infrastructure layer that wraps around AI models to make their outputs reliable, traceable, and verifiable. The company is seeking a Frontend Software Engineer to build the analyst-facing surface of Kepler's AI research platform. This platform is used by financial professionals for critical business decisions. The role involves packaging AI-generated data into workflows that analysts use daily, such as researching companies, pulling comparable data, and extracting financial information into models. A key aspect of the role is building verification interfaces that allow users to trace any number back to its source. This position is ideal for engineers who want to work on foundational technology at the intersection of AI and finance, where their code directly influences client decision-making.

Requirements

  • 5+ years building production software.
  • Expert in TypeScript/React.
  • Deep enough in the browser to know why an interface feels slow and how to fix it.
  • Experience building data-dense interfaces (tables, charts, long documents, live-updating views) and keeping them fast.
  • Product taste: sweat interaction details, and can take a rough mock, or no mock at all, to a polished interface.
  • Quick learner and comfortable in a codebase you wrote as one you’re reading for the first time.
  • Care about whether production systems are correct - not just whether they work on the happy path.
  • Think about failure modes before someone asks you to.
  • Comfortable in a codebase you didn't write, moving between a component library and the API it calls in the same day.
  • Drawn to early-stage not for the title but because you want your work visible in the product, not abstracted behind three layers of management.
  • Care what the analyst does with what you shipped, not whether the code was clever.
  • Would rather fix something than file a ticket about it.
  • Will tell someone their design has a flaw before the PR goes in, not after.
  • Communicate before it’s a problem, and when a teammate needs something from you, they don’t have to ask twice.
  • Know what it feels like when the plan changes twice in a day and the work still has to ship.
  • Fluency in using AI tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code).

Nice To Haves

  • Problem-solving ability
  • Systems thinking
  • Drive to build transformative agentic infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Build the analyst-facing surface of Kepler's AI research platform.
  • Package AI-generated data into workflows analysts use daily (researching a company, pulling comps, extracting financials into a model).
  • Build verification interfaces that let analysts trace any number back to its source.
  • Ship the UI for a source explorer that lets users trace any value back to its exact origin in the original document.
  • Build the interface that shows an agent's work in real time: which sources it's reading, what it's computing, and where each value came from.
  • Make financial statement views feel like a native spreadsheet: fast rendering of thousands of cells, keyboard navigation, every cell one click from its source.
  • Rework how long-running research queries stream into the workspace, so analysts see cited results as they arrive instead of waiting on a spinner.
  • Own features end-to-end.
  • Extend the platform to a new industry.
  • Lead new architecture as infrastructure scales.

Benefits

  • 100% covered top-of-the-line medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families.
  • HSA maxed by the company to the IRS limit.
  • Automatic coverage for life, AD&D, and disability insurance.
  • Daily lunch in office.
  • Unlimited PTO policy.
  • Development environment budget - latest MacBook Pro, multiple monitors, ergonomic setup, and any development tools you need.
  • "Build anything" budget - dedicated funding for whatever tools, libraries, datasets, or infrastructure you need to solve technical challenges, no questions asked.
  • Learning budget - attend any conference, course, or program that makes you better at what we're building.
