About The Position

GovCIO is hiring a Frontend Developer to build and modernize federal applications on a serverless AWS GovCloud stack. The position is remote within the Continental United States (CONUS). The developer begins with a focus on frontend work and is expected to grow into a full-stack role. Working within a cross-functional product team alongside designers, backend developers, DevOps engineers, and test engineers, the developer builds and maintains modern web applications using JavaScript, React, and Redux, integrating them with REST APIs on a serverless AWS backend. The role is hands-on and deadline-driven, with work planned and completed within sprints. Developers work from user stories and designer wireframes to build accessible and secure user interfaces, while understanding how the frontend and serverless backend fit together. As the role grows into full-stack development, the developer will build backend services with Python and AWS serverless technologies such as API Gateway, Lambda, and Step Functions. The work also includes integrating AI features using large language models and vision models, and building applications that handle non-deterministic AI output.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, or a related STEM field, with the stated alternative of a non-STEM bachelor's degree combined with equivalent professional software engineering experience, technical certifications, or completed technical coursework such as an accredited bootcamp or graduate certificate.
  • 5 to 10 years of professional frontend or full-stack development experience.
  • 5+ years of JavaScript development.
  • 2+ years of React, including Redux or similar state management.
  • 2+ years of CSS and SASS.

Nice To Haves

  • AWS Associate Certification: Architect, Developer, or CloudOps.

  • Build pages from designer wireframes using CSS and SASS.
  • Meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • Apply frontend security practices, including OWASP guidelines, authentication, JWT handling, and PHI/PII protection.
