The Front Office Assistant performs a variety of clerical duties and front office operations in support of patient care activities, ensuring even patient flow and continuous communication within the department, referring physician offices, and organization staff. This role involves courteous interaction with patients, their family members or surrogate decision makers, and the public according to established standards. The assistant will greet visitors, answer telephones, and may handle financial transactions such as collecting copays, closing the cash drawer, and preparing month-end deposits. Key responsibilities include collecting initial demographic and clinical patient information, accurately entering it into the medical record, and compiling/preparing charts. The role also involves coordinating patient scheduling, including confirmations, cancellations, and rescheduling, with prompt communication of any changes. Maintaining accurate information and utilizing various software for scheduling, charge entry, document management, and patient data entry is crucial. The Front Office Assistant ensures patient charts are complete prior to procedures, schedules patient tests as directed, and may assist in various departments as needed. Maintaining patient confidentiality and participating in continuous quality improvement are essential. The position may also involve assisting clinical staff with patients and family members and performing other assigned duties.
